Fly Like Quidditch

I admit that one of the first things on my To-Do list for World Cup V was to watch the hosts of SnitchCenter play, because they were the closest things the Quidditch community had to celebrities. Asher has this hilariously nonchalant dodgeball-player style of beating, and UCLA’s game against Yale was one of my favorites of the tournament (seriously, someone tell me who that snitch was. Everyone called him “Cawcaw” and he leapfrogged players like it was his job) but I’d like to focus my attention towards featuring Nicte Sobrino of University of Southern California.

Nicte is a fucking spitfire. I unfortunately don’t know her personally, but her style of play just automatically made me like her. She’s this tiny girl who quite literally bursts with energy on the pitch - she’s like the lovechild of an amazon and a wood nymph. Nicte is extremely fast and agressive, and the way she darts through the field seems so effortless. She’s one of those beaters that Chasers think they can get past without a problem… but she’s one of those beaters who make Chasers instantly regret that error in judgement. She’s a great communicator (as are several players on her team), and from the look in her eyes you can just tell she’s hyper-aware of everything that’s going on around her. And while Nicte isn’t the Mollie Lensing or Heather Knoch type of beater who’ll just run at you and take you down to get your bludger, I saw her make some sneaky steals that left her opponents confused as to what just happened. Sometimes, its the small spunky ones you have to look out for.

WEAKNESS: Fast guy beaters. I kept thinking every time I watched Asher and Nicte play that I’d love to see them faceoff (I didn’t get to see the USC v. UCLA game). I don’t know how Nicte would fare against someone as fast as her that is a little more capable of physical contact.
